The two possible answers for biweekly pay
There are only two biweekly Friday schedules in 2027, and they have different bonus months:

The January 15 series is the one federal employees on the GSA payroll calendar ride — its EFT deposit dates for 2027 are Fridays Jan 15, Jan 29, and so on — so if you are paid like most federal workers, your extra checks land in July and December, with the December triple (Dec 3, 17, 31) arriving right before the holidays. December 31 stays put even though federal employees are off that in-lieu Friday: banks are open, so payroll settles.
Weekly and semi-monthly readers: weekly pay has five-check months instead — January and February and March and April and May and June and July and August and September and October and November and December — and semi-monthly never has an extra month (always 24 checks). Which months have three paychecks in 2027?
Biweekly: April and October if you are paid on the schedule that includes January 8, or July and December on the January 15 schedule (the GSA federal pattern). Weekly schedules get five-check months instead: January and February and March and April and May and June and July and August and September and October and November and December.
How do I know which biweekly schedule I am on?
Look at your most recent Friday payday and check whether it is on the January 8 series (…Jan 8, Jan 22, Feb 5…) or the January 15 series (…Jan 15, Jan 29, Feb 12…). Every other Friday belongs to one of the two, and they swap 3-paycheck months.
Is a third paycheck extra money?
It is money the usual monthly budget does not rely on. Biweekly pay delivers 26 checks a year; budgeting on two per month uses only 24. The 25th and 26th — landing in the 3-paycheck months — are best earmarked for savings, annual bills, or debt payoff.
