Reading the GSA calendar

Federal biweekly pay periods run Sunday to Saturday; payday for a period is the EFT Friday about a week after it closes. In 2027 that means deposits on January 15, January 29, February 12, and every second Friday after — three deposits land in July (Jul 2, 16, 30) and December (Dec 3, 17, 30), which is why those are the federal-employee three-paycheck months. PP26 ends December 25; the December 30 deposit relates to the next pay period, which ends January 8, 2028.

The Saturday-holiday quirk matters for December planning: Christmas 2027 falls on a Saturday, so federal employees are off Friday December 24 — but Federal Reserve banks are open that Friday, so payroll settles as usual. The same applies to June 18 (Juneteenth) and December 31 (New Year's 2028).
